WELCOME

Canada-Israel Cultural Foundation is very proud to be presenting the 4th Spotlight on Israeli Culture.

Israel is known globally as the start-up nation. But there is another side to Israel: a vibrant diversity and magical creativity that also make this little country one of the most exciting global arts and cultural hubs. The diversity of its population provides a unique tapestry of cultural possibility, turning its urban centres into a fusion of boundless, world-class art, music, and culture. Israel’s vast array of artists have earned a reputation of excellence, highlighting the multifaceted mosaic of Israel today.

From March 8th until June 1st, CICF in collaboration with various local cultural partners will enrich Toronto’s cultural scene with the vibrant, original, and hugely diverse creativity of contemporary theatre, music, film, art, and dance from Israel.

We are grateful to UJA Federation of Greater Toronto for their very generous support of Spotlight on Israeli Culture, and for their great commitment to furthering Arts, Culture and Heritage in Toronto.

Arts and culture provide a powerful way to connect people from varying and diverse backgrounds. It is through the common language of art – a language not always verbal – that one can get a hands-on understanding and appreciation of a society and its people.

CICF is proud that in this 2018 festival, Spotlight on Israeli Culture will celebrate Israel’s 70th birthday by showcasing a number of Israel’s dynamic artists, some of whom will perform in Canada for the first time.

Over two months, thousands of Canadians will have a chance to be moved and inspired by the magic of these incredible artists and to get to know a different Israel: one of people, creativity, differences and possibility. One of a little country with a big, creative heart.

Israel – we’re getting to know you.

On behalf of UJA Federation’s Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee, we are pleased to extend the heartiest of congratulations to the Canada-Israel Cultural Foundation for Spotlight on Israel 2018! Israel’s 70th birthday presents a special opportunity for Toronto’s Jewish community to celebrate Israel’s arts and culture, known the world over for its rich creative history and celebration of the Jewish people. This unique festival brings together a vibrant array of arts-based organizations in our city that have collaborated to showcase a broad range of Israeli artists and their work. What better way to understand Israel, connect to its people, and celebrate its diversity and vibrancy than through the arts!

UJA is committed to supporting Jewish Arts, Culture and Heritage in the GTA and is pleased to be a supporter of Spotlight on Israel 2018. We can’t wait to see you there!

Jill Reitman
Chair, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee

We are proud to support the 2018 Spotlight on Israeli Culture Festival in its fourth incarnation. Commemorating Israel’s 70th anniversary, Spotlight continues to showcase some of the best of Israeli culture touring the world today. We commend the Canada-Israel Cultural Foundation for this ongoing initiative.

Culture is a powerful force that transcends borders. Israel’s diverse artists and performers—bursting with energy and creativity and reflecting the colorful tapestry that is modern day Israel—have earned a reputation for vitality and excellence which people of all backgrounds can enjoy and connect to.

Best wishes to all for a most successful Spotlight.
